چکیده
Evolution of large scale networks demand for efficient way of communication in the networks. One way to propagate information in the network is to find vertex cover. In this paper we describe a variant of vertex cover problem naming it N-distance Vertex Minimal Cover(N-MVC) Problem to optimize information propagation throughout the network. A minimum subset of vertices of a unweighted and undirected graph G = (V,E) is called N-MVC if ∀v ∈ V , v is at distance ≤ N from at least one of the the vertices in N-MVC. In the following paper, this problem is defined, formulated and an approximation algorithm is proposed with discussion on its correctness and upper bound.

A 2-approximation NC algorithm for connected vertex cover and tree cover
The connected vertex cover problem is a variant of the vertex cover problem, in which a vertex cover is additional required to induce a connected subgraph in a given connected graph. The problem is known to be NP-hard and to be at least as hard to approximate as the vertex cover problem is. While several 2-approximation NC algorithms are known for vertex cover, whether unweighted or weighted, n...
متن کاملFast Vertex Guarding for Polygons
For a polygon P with n vertices, the vertex guarding problem asks for the minimum subset G of P ’s vertices such that every point in P is seen by at least one point in G. This problem is NP-complete and APX-hard. The first approximation algorithm (Ghosh, 1987) involves decomposing P into O ( n ) cells that are equivalence classes for visibility from the vertices of P . This discretized problem ...

متن کاملMaximization Problems Parameterized Using Their Minimization Versions: The Case of Vertex Cover
The parameterized complexity of problems is often studied with respect to the size of their optimal solutions. However, for a maximization problem, the size of the optimal solution can be very large, rendering algorithms parameterized by it inefficient. Therefore, we suggest to study the parameterized complexity of maximization problems with respect to the size of the optimal solutions to their...
متن کاملDistributed Vertex Cover in Network Graphs
Vertex cover, a minimal set of nodes to cover all edges in a graph, is an abstraction of coverage problems in sensor networks, transportation networks, etc, and is a well-konwn NP-hard problem. Minimum weighted vertex cover (MWVC) problem asks for further minimizing the cumulative weight of a vertex cover. We present new distributed k-hop algorithms for MWVC problem with theoretical and practic...
